“The spirit was amazing” – Chelsea 1-1 Man Utd player ratings
Manchester United left it very late to deny Chelsea all three points at Stamford Bridge this evening.
The match came alive minutes from the end when Jorginho put the hosts in front via a spot-kick. Just when a fourth win across five Premier League outings looked to be on the cards United salvaged a point through summer recruit Casemiro.
Here’s how the players rated:

Chelsea
Kepa Arrizabalaga – 8 – Put in another strong performance to rejustify his place back in Chelsea’s starting lineup. Pulled off two incredible saves to deny Marcus Rashford in the first half. Was unlucky not to end the game with a clean sheet.
Marc Cucurella – 4 – Antony ran him ragged before Potter hauled him off in response to United’s dominance of the ball. It meant a change of system with Chelsea no longer playing with three-at-the-back.
Thiago Silva – 6 – As usual the experienced Brazilian centre-back did the fundamentals well. That being said it was one of his more subdued performances.

Trevoh Chalobah – 6 – Hit the crossbar down the final stretch. This was another showing to strengthen his case to be included in England’s forthcoming World Cup finals squad.
Ben Chilwell – 6 – Had a fascinating match-up with Antony and gave as good as he got.
Jorginho – 7 – Reliable as ever when converting from 12 yards with four minutes remaining, it broke the deadlock and should have been enough to give Potter’s men three valuable points instead the game would end level.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek – 5 – Looked impressive whenever he was able to maraud forward and link up with Chelsea’s attack.
César Azpilicueta – 7 – Gave a strong captain’s performance. His ability to read the game was again on evidence this evening.
Raheem Sterling has played more matches against Manchester United than any other club in his career.
24 games, still 0 goals. 😩

Raheem Sterling – 6 – Couldn’t get going and had yet another frustrating outing against Man Utd.
Mason Mount – 6 – Started slowly before coming into life the minute Potter adjusted Chelsea’s formation to give Mount more space to work in.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – 5 – Came agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock before half-time. In truth was feeding off scraps throughout his time on the field.
Substitutes:
Mateo Kovacic (for Cucurella 35) – 7 – His introduction added some life to Chelsea’s attack with the hosts immediately enjoying more playing time in United’s final third.
Christian Pulisic (for Aubameyang 73) – N/A – A late sub.
Armando Broja (for Sterling 78) – N/A – A late sub.
Carney Chukwuemeka (for Loftus-Cheek 78) – N/A – A late sub.
Player name (for Sterling 78) – N/A – A late sub.
Man Utd
David de Gea – 6 – His goal was never really peppered by Chelsea and was a tad unfortunate to concede a late penalty.
Luke Shaw – 6 – Earned his spot in Ten Hag’s starting eleven and showed again there’s a solid full-back within him. It was his cross which led to United’s stoppage-time equaliser.
Lisandro Martínez – 7 – As feisty as ever, any doubts — which dominated the conversation in the early weeks — have now evaporated. He’s now firmly United’s leader at the back.
Lisandro Martínez made more clearances (7) than any other player on the pitch during Chelsea 1-1 Man Utd and no player made more successful tackles (5).

Raphaël Varane – 5 – Was having another colossus performance but came off after seemingly tweaking something before the hour mark. “I think Varane is fearing the worst,” Gary Neville solemnly responded on commentary.
Diogo Dalot – 6 – Enjoying his best season in United red and took another step to establish himself as one of the league’s best right-backs.
Christian Eriksen – 6 – Came in for the unlucky Fred, who didn’t put a foot wrong in United’s win over Tottenham earlier in the week, that being said the Danish playmaker brought calm to Erik ten Hag’s midfield and dutifully recycled possession.
Casemiro – 9 – A much-needed presence in United’s midfield. The former Real Madrid star is more than a defensive midfielder par excellence his awareness on the front foot gives Ten Hag’s side a different dimension. Produced a brilliant header to equalise in stoppage time.
Jadon Sancho – 4 – Had few touches in the opening 45 minutes but was seldom threatening. Came off for Fred in a tactical substitution early into the second half.
Casemiro's game by numbers vs. Chelsea:
69 touches
10 x possession won (most)
9 duels won (most)
4 tackles made
3 aerial duels won
3 clearances
2 fouls won
1 interecption
1 shot
1 goal

Bruno Fernandes – 7 – Back to his best as United’s creator-in-chief. No one on the pitch created more chances than Fernandes who could have also written his name on the scoresheet. He was also a vocal presence pushing his teammates on throughout.
“We kept fighting, the spirit was amazing. That’s why we got the point,” he told Sky Sports after the game.
Antony – 7 – His price tag is no longer an albatross around his neck; the Brazilian forward was relentless down United’s right flank subsequently giving Ben Chilwell one of his toughest assignments. He could have given the Red Devil’s the go-ahead goal before the break.
“He should do better, he should at least hit the target,” Neville said. “That was a big moment just before half-time.”
Marcus Rashford – 5 – Another tough evening in front of goal for United’s lone forward. If not for Kepa he would have broken a five-game scoring duck.
Substitutes:
Fred (for Sancho 51) – 6 – Added some more fight to Man Utd.
Victor Lindelöf (for Varane 59) – 5 – Had the unenviable task of continuing Varane’s work and to some degree filled in well for the Frenchman.
Scott McTominay (for Eriksen 79) – 4 – His moment of dumbness looked to have cost United but for his sake was fortunately bailed out.
Anthony Elanga (for Rashford 80) – N/A – A late sub.
