With pre-season over, Chelsea will look to make the best possible start to their 2020/21 Premier League campaign when they travel to Brighton on Monday at 8:00 PM.

Arsenal, Liverpool and Everton have already recorded a win apiece so Chelsea will be keen get off on the right foot at the first time of asking.

The Blues had a somewhat mixed first season under Frank Lampard in 2019/20, finishing fourth in the Premier League and qualifying for the Champions League, but coming home 15 points behind runners-up Manchester City and 33 points adrift of champions Liverpool.

Chelsea also reached the FA Cup final but lost to Arsenal while they were crushed 7-1 on aggregate by Bayern Munich in the Champions League round-of-16.

However, the Blues have been incredibly busy in the transfer market, bringing in Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyech, Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell, while Malang Sarr has also joined the club but will spend the season out on loan.

With the likes of Christian Pulisic, Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham already in his squad, Lampard now has a formidable forward line at his disposal full of craft, creativity and mobility — of which fans cannot wait to see out on the pitch for their Premier League opener at The Amex on Monday.

Latest Chelsea fixtures and where to watch them:

Brighton and Chelsea only recently locked horns in a pre-season friendly, drawing 1-1, so this opener should be an intriguing encounter between two teams already relatively familiar with each other. However, the Blues will be keen to secure all three points as they have the visit of defending champions, Liverpool, to look forward to less than a week later.

Following their clash with the Reds, Lampard’s men travel to newly-promoted West Brom, then host Crystal Palace and Southampton in west London. While theycertainly represent more favourable fixtures, this doesn’t represent an easy start to the season for Chelsea.

Chelsea player in focus: Kai Havertz

With a goal in his first game against Brighton, then another on international duty for Germany against Spain, much of the talk about Chelsea’s new signings has been centred around Werner. However, the arrival of Havertz should not be understated and, in fact, some would argue he’s an even more exciting prospect than his compatriot.

Havertz has ripped the Bundesliga open over the past two seasons, scoring 29 goals and contributing a further nine assists, while HE also managed a further four goals and two assists in five Europa League outings in 2019/20.

Incredibly versatile, Bayer Leverkusen fielded Havertz in a variety of roles last season, including on the flanks, through the middle as a false nine and behind the main striker as a No.10.

This makes him an incredibly attractive addition to Lampard’s squad and while it will be interesting to see where he lines up at Stamford Bridge, his wonderful passing range, intelligent movement and clinical finishing is sure to wow the Chelsea faithful.
