Kylian Hazard has made his loan to Cercle Bruges permanent, the club has confirmed.

The 23-year-old, younger brother of Eden Hazard, has been at Stamford Bridge the summer of 2017, making 12 appearances for the club’s development team during that time.

Kylian Hazard departs Chelsea: Five key things to know…

  1. Kylian Hazard joined Chelsea in 2017 from Hungarian side Ujpest.
  2. The 23-year-old has scored four goals in 21 games on loan at Cercle Bruges this term.
  3. That loan has now been made permanent as Kylian searches for regular first-team football.
  4. He failed to make a single appearance for the Chelsea first team during his time in London.
  5. Brother Eden Hazard is subject to sizable interest from Real Madrid with fans fearing he could be the next to leave.

However, he hasn’t had the same effect on west London as his illustrious older sibling and will move to his native Belgium in search of first-team football.

“Chelsea Football Club has agreed terms with Cercle Bruges for the permanent transfer of Kylian Hazard,” read an announcement on Chelsea’s official website.

“The 23-year-old Belgian, younger brother of Blues forward Eden, joined us from Hungarian side Ujpest in the summer of 2017, making 11 appearances for our development squad last season, including a goalscoring debut against Swansea City.

“Hazard has spent the current campaign on loan in his homeland’s top flight with Cercle Bruges, scoring four goals in 21 appearances in all competitions, and will make the move permanent when the summer transfer window opens.

“We thank Kylian for his service to the club and wish him the best of luck for the next chapter of his career.”

One Hazard has gone but what about the other?

Given his age and relative lack of first team experience, Kylian Hazard’s departure from Stamford Bridge will hardly come as a surprise and certainly won’t cause Chelsea fans to lose any sleep.

However, the ongoing transfer saga surrounding older brother Eden Hazard may well have Blues fans nervous. The 28-year-old continued his fine form this term, providing two assists to become only the fourth player to contribute 15+ goals and 15+ assists during a single Premier League season and the first to do so since Thierry Henry in 2003.

But Hazard has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid for over a year now, with the Belgium international often describing the Spanish giants as a ‘dream’ club to play for.

Borussia Dortmund winger Christian Pulisic has already been secured ahead of next season but should Hazard leave, it will be very difficult for Maurizio Sarri to find a replacement for one of the club’s greatest-ever players.
