The Championship deals you might have missed this summer

Whether it be to make a charge to Premier League glory, sneak into the play-offs or avoid slipping into League One, Championship clubs across the country are busy strengthening their squads.
The cash being flashed around may not be on the same monumental scale as in the Premier League, but that doesn’t mean some exciting, intriguing or even downright strange deals aren’t going through.
So we’ve picked out 11 Championship transfers you might have missed so far this summer.

Wales international goalkeeper Adam Davies finally ended a five-year, 209-game spell at Barnsley by moving to Stoke City on a free transfer. The former Everton youngster played 42 games as Barnsley finished second in League One last season.

Coming in to replace the departing Davies is 22-year-old Bradley Collins. Another youngster to have left the Chelsea ranks, Collins spent last season on loan at Burton Albion.
3. Stewart Downing
✍️ #Rovers are delighted to unveil Stewart Downing as the club’s first signing of the summer on a one-year deal through to June 2020.

From: Middlesbrough
To: Blackburn Rovers

And here we all were thinking Stewart Downing had gone back up to the North East to retire. Not quite, the former England international has now moved on a free transfer to Blackburn Rovers, who finished in a solid 15th place in the Championship last season.
4. Christian Norgaard
Brentford have agreed a £2.8m deal with Fiorentina to sign Danish midfielder Christian Norgaard.
— Sky Sports Football (@SkyFootball) May 26, 2019
From: Fiorentina
To: Brentford
Fee: £3.15m
After making just six Serie A appearances for Fiorentina last season, Christian Norgaard has signed with Brentford for a £3.15m fee in what is quite a statement transfer for the Bees. The midfielder was capped no fewer than 73 times at youth level for Denmark and played 16 times in European competition with Brondby.
5. Nick Powell
🎥 @NPowell25 has been inundated with messages from friends and family following his move to the bet365 Stadium.
The Crewe born forward is excited by his fresh challenge at the Club.#SCFC 🔴⚪️
— Stoke City FC (@stokecity) June 27, 2019
From: Wigan Athletic
To: Stoke City
Fee: Free
Whether it be Manchester United or Crewe Alexandra, Nick Powell has certainly been around the block. His latest move sees him leave Wigan Athletic to join promotion hopefuls Stoke City on a free transfer. Given that he bagged eight goals and six assists last season, this could turn out to be a handy piece of business.

6. Gary Gardner

— Aston Villa (@AVFCOfficial) June 5, 2019
From: Aston Villa
To: Birmingham City
Fee: Undisclosed
It’s been really hard to track both Gary and Craig Gardner, with their constant need to switch between midlands clubs. It should be a little easier now, though, with Gary joining his brother after making his loan switch from Villa to Birmingham permanent.
7. Tommy Elphick
Delighted to have joined @htafcdotcom thank you for the messages. Looking forward to getting started! pic.twitter.com/8IB8iQmxFX
— Tommy Elphick (@TommyElph4) June 15, 2019
From: Aston Villa
To: Huddersfield Town
Fee: Free
Another departure from Villa Park, it was honestly hard to see Tommy Elphick ever getting a regular spot in the Premier League next season, with Dean Smith set to strengthen his side. A move to recently relegated Huddersfield Town will suit him nicely.
8. Liam Lindsay

From: Barnsley
To: Stoke City
Fee: £2m
Stoke really have been busy so far. Following Davies to the Potteries is Scottish centre-back, Liam Lindsay, who joins up with Nathan Jones’ side having made 45 appearances in all competitions for Barnsley last season.
9. Patrick Bauer
✍️ BREAKING: #pnefc have completed their first signing of the summer by signing German defender Patrick Bauer.

— Preston North End FC (@pnefc) June 19, 2019
From: Charlton Athletic
To: Preston North End

After scoring a dramatic 93rd-minute winner in their 2-1 League One play-off final victory over Sunderland recently, some will be surprised to see Patrick Bauer leave for Preston but manager Alex Neil seems to have made an impression.
“It was never an easy decision,” the German defender said upon his departure. “We got promoted and the people seemed to really like me. But I really like the ambition of Preston. I had a few clubs interested but the conversations with the manager were really good.”
10. Sammy Ameobi

From: Bolton Wanderers
To: Nottingham Forest

In a bid to ease their massive financial worries, Bolton have and will continue to move players on and shed their wage bill. As such, winger Sammy Ameobi has switched to Nottingham Forest after notching four goals and three assists for the Trotters last season.
11. Lee Wallace

To: Queens Park Rangers

Lee Wallace has undergone a rapid decline from Rangers fan favourite to total outcast since Steven Gerrard arrived at Ibrox, making just three substitute appearances last season. The Scottish left-back has now switched to QPR to replace Matt Bidwell, who was recently released at Loftus Road.
