The 2022/23 Champions League is back and there are some fresh faces among the squads for the knockout stages.
It feels as though it’s been ages since the culmination of the Champions League group stage, and it’s not hard to see why with three months passing and the small matter of a World Cup happening since the final match (and draw). But now the last 16 is upon us.
There were some shocks in the group stages with Barcelona among those to drop out, but not every Champions League qualifier was happy with their squad. Take Chelsea, for example.
Struggling domestically, the Blues signed eight players in the January transfer window including the arrival of Enzo Fernandez, breaking their club record for the £100m+ transfer. It’s a transfer fee that will be brought up every time Fernandez plays, and it feels like he may never truly live up to the expectations of it in the eyes of some — as he isn’t a goalscoring striker.
But how well do you know the other 15 teams in the 2022/23 Champions League knockout stages, and their transfer dealings? Can you name their record signings, not in January 2023, but overall?
We’ve given you one with Chelsea and Fernandez, but for the rest you’re on your own. Good luck!
