After what feels like forever, the draw for the remainder of the 2019/20 Champions League campaign has been made and Manchester City are now favourites to win.

Before football took its break in March, four teams had secured their place in the quarter-finals, including Atletico Madrid, who knocked out holders Liverpool 4-2 on aggregate after a thrilling 3-2 extra-time win at Anfield.

Atletico were joined by Paris Saint-Germain, in the quarter-finals for the first time since 2016 thanks to a 3-2 aggregate win over Borussia Dortmund despite losing the first leg 2-1.

There were also two confirmed newcomers in the Champions League quarter-final draw in the form of Atalanta and RB Leizpig, who knocked out Valencia and Tottenham Hotspur respectively.

The bizarre nature surrounding the 2019/20 season means that the draw was made before the final last-16 ties were complete, meaning some teams still do not know who they will be facing.

Pre-draw favourites Bayern Munich are the only side with a clear advantage going into the second legs, holding a 3-0 lead over Premier League side Chelsea. They will also be looking to become just the second European club to win ‘the treble’ on two occasions, after Barcelona, having already wrapped up the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal

Also taking leads into their second legs are Lyon, who beat Juventus 1-0, and Manchester City. The latter have a 2-1 advantage over Real Madrid while Barcelona’s tie with Napoli is evenly poised at 1-1, though the Blaugrana have what could be a crucial away goal.

But this could not take away the excitement of the draw, with a potential match between Barcelona and Bayern Munich the standout tie of the round (should they overcome Napoli and Chelsea respectively) with all games being played over just one leg in Lisbon between 7-8 August.

Another potentially huge tie could see one of Real Madrid or Manchester City host Lyon or Juventus. There were two guaranteed ties made from the draw with RB Leipzig facing Atletico Madrid in what will be an exciting battle between defence and attack, while PSG take on Atalanta.

Draws were also made for the remainder of the tournament, with the potential for an El Clasico semi-final. However, for that to happen, Real Madrid will have to knock out the new favourites Manchester City. They have been backed to win the Champions League for the first time, potentially making up for their poor Premier League title defence.

Man City replaced Bayern Munich, whose route to the final could see them take on Barcelona before a potential reunion with Pep Guardiola in the semi-finals.
