Celta Vigo will be looking for their fifth consecutive home victory in La Liga when they welcome Villarreal to the Estadio de Balaidos on Friday at 20:00 pm (UK Time).

Celta Vigo were on a seven-game unbeaten streak across all competitions towards the end of 2020, but they started the new year in a terrible manner. They lost 2-0 on the road at Real Madrid in the previous La Liga round and then were eliminated from the Copa del Rey after a 5-2 away loss at lower league side Ibiza.

The good news is that Celta are now back on home soil where they are currently on a four-game winning streak in the league. In addition, they have scored at least two goals in each of their last four home league fixtures while conceding just two. Celta currently sit eighth in the standings, four points behind the top six places.

Meanwhile, Villarreal have enjoyed a solid season across all competitions so far. They have suffered just one defeat in their last 15 competitive games and come into this clash on the back of two consecutive victories against Levante in La Liga and Zamora in the Copa del Rey. The Yellow Submarines find themselves fifth in the league table, just two points behind third-placed Barcelona. Away from home, Villarreal have lost just once in 12 trips and have won three of their most recent four away fixtures. Furthermore, Villarreal did well to win in three of their most recent four trips to the Estadio de Balaidos.

Can Celta Vigo get back to winning ways after their most recent defeats? Or will Villarreal secure their fourth victory in their last five trips to the Estadio de Balaidos?

Celta Vigo and Villarreal’s previous line-ups:

  • Celta Vigo (vs Ibiza): Villar, Carreira, Aidoo, Fontan, Caricol, Beltran, Yokuslu, Tapia, Baeza Perez, Lauti, Mor.
  • Villarreal (vs Zamora): Rulli, Costa, Chakla, Mori, Estupinan, Foyth, Chukweze, Capoue, Bacca, Pino, Baena.

There will definitely be some changes in the Celta Vigo squad after their Copa del Rey game against Ibiza. However, it has to be mentioned that Celta lost two of their best players in the shape of Iago Aspas and Nolito a week ago in Madrid. In addition, Renato Tapia will miss the game through suspension.

Villarreal are also set to make the trip without several injured players including the likes of Paco Alcacer, Vicente Iborra, Franci Coquelin and Juan Foyth.
