Djokovic has really put himself through the wringer to make it to the final this week. The Serbian has produced his best tennis in the pressure moments, as has become customary, and though the stress levels and the physical load have probably been higher than the former world #1 would’ve wanted, he is the undoubted favourite ahead of the final.

Casper Ruud has been magnificent this week. All in all, it is probably his most impressive week of tennis. It wasn’t that long ago that Ruud was considered a clay court specialist and flat-track bully. He still hasn’t won an ATP tournament higher than 250 level, but having reached finals in Miami, Roland-Garros, and the US Open, Ruud has proven now that he belongs at the top table of current men’s singles players.

Looking at the statistics from the tournament so far, there is little in it between the two competitors. Both players have won just over 73% of their own service points, however, it is on return that Djokovic impresses over Ruud and what probably gives him the edge in this match. In this tournament Djokovic has won a whole 10% more points on return than Ruud.

The head-to-head between the two is very one-sided as well. Ruud has yet to win a set against Djokovic in three attempts, two of those being on his favoured clay and one of them in this same arena last year in the round robin stages. Certainly there is nothing in the form and statistic lines to suggest any other result than a Djokovic win.

Scoreline prediction: Ruud 0-2 Djokovic
