Carlos Alcaraz will be hoping he can reclaim his World No.1 crown with help to a good performance at the Indian Wells Masters. The 19-year-old became the youngest ever men’s No. 1 in September thanks to his win at the US Open, beating Casper Ruud in the final, but lost it having missed the Australian Open due to injury.

Injuries have continued to hamper Alcaraz slightly this year but he is back in the Masters 1000 scene looking to build on his two wins from 2022. As the world no.2 and top seed for the tournament, Alcaraz entered the Indian Wells Masters in the second round where he was pit against qualifier Thanasi Kokkinakis. The Spaniard made light work of his Australian opponent, winning 6-3, 6-3 to set up this match.

Tallon Griekspoor is a late arrival to the Masters 1000 tour, making his first four appearances at this level last year. It was a sweep of round one exists and Griekspoor will be hoping for a better showing this time around as he tries to move up the rankings and build on a third-round run at the Australian Open, his best finish at a Grand Slam so far.

Ranked 36 in the world, Griekspoor was the 31st seed for Indian Wells and just about snuck into the 32 players who were handed a bye into the second round. Griekspoor managed a straight sets victory in his first match of the tournament, beating Guido Pella 7-6 (3), 7-6 (4), furthering his best run at a Masters 1000 tournament.

Prediction: Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets
