Carlos Alcaraz will be looking to take a step towards reclaiming his World No.1 crown with a good run at the Indian Wells Masters, going into the tournament just behind Novak Djokovic. The 19-year-old jumped up to World No.1 thanks to his win at the US Open, beating Casper Ruud in the final, but dropped down when he missed the Australian Open through injury.
With Djokovic not involved at Indian Wells, Alcaraz is the top seed and entered in the second round where he was pit against Thanasi Kokkinakis. The Spaniard made light work of his Australian opponent, winning in straight sets, and it was a similar victory over Tallon Grieksppor with Alcaraz winning 7-6 (4), 6-3.
Jack Draper, meanwhile, is enjoying his time at tennis’ top table after stepping up into the ATP Masters 1000 circuit last year. His best performance came in the Canadian Open as Draper reached the quarter-finals, but in 2023 he is taking part at Indian Wells for the first time.
Unseeded, Draper entered the tournament in the first round and routinely beat qualifier Leandro Riedi in straight sets. That victory set up Draper’s first all-Brit match of the tournament, against 24th-seed Dan Evans, which he again won in just two sets. And last time out Draper beat Andy Murray 7-6 (6), 6-2 to remain one of just two Brits still standing at Indian Wells.
