Sergio Busquets backs two of his team-mates to become the best in the world in their position

Frenkie de Jong and Fabian Ruiz will develop into two of the best central midfielders in the world, according to Barcelona and Spain veteran Sergio Busquets.
Busquets and De Jong have become colleagues at the Camp Nou this season while Fabian is vying to cement a place in La Furia Roja’s starting XI.
The rise of De Jong and Fabian: Five things to know…
- De Jong was an integral part of Ajax’s progress to the Champions League semi-finals last season.
- The Dutchman also impressed in the Nations League earlier this year.
- The 22-year-old joined Barca this summer for a sum of £65 million.
- Fabian is 23 and has developed into a key figure at Serie A side Napoli.
- He made his Spain debut earlier this year and has a total of two caps.
Speaking after Spain’s narrow victory over Romania last week, Busquets was full of praise for two players who may well be looking to succeed him at domestic and international level.
He said: “They are two great players. They’re very young with a lot to give now and in the future.
“They’ll be the best in their position.”
De Jong was one of the best midfielders in European football last campaign and became the No.1 target for Barcelona after his magnificent displays for Ajax. He and Busquets are similar in style and could strike up quite the partnership if allowed to do so.
Fabian has been plying his trade in Naples since 2014 and has gone from strength to strength. He was one of the standout players in Serie A last campaign and is slowly forcing his way into Spain’s plans too.

“He’s brutal” – Busquets praises Ramos
Sergio Ramos has come to the rescue on many an occasion for club and country and last Thursday was no different. His first-half penalty proved crucial as Spain saw off a stubborn Romanian side.
Not just an outstanding defender, Ramos is now the joint 10th all-time top scorer for Spain with 21 goals. For a centre-back, that is quite extraordinary.
After seeing his captain put in another excellent performance, Busquets hailed the Real Madrid man’s influence.
Busquets said: “He’s brutal. With his club and country. He has been, is and will continue to be one of the best in the world.
“It gives us pride to play with him.”
