Burnley welcome champions Manchester City to Turf Moor in the Premier League on Tuesday evening.

Pep Guardiola‘s grip on the championship is slowly fading away following more dropped points.

A 2-2 draw at Newcastle United coupled with Liverpool edging out Brighton 2-1 has left Man City 11 points behind the Reds with 24 matches remaining.

As such, they will need to be near perfect from here on out, starting with a tricky visit to Lancashire, where they’ve come unstuck before.

Ones to watch

Burnley: Ben Mee

A wounded Manchester City is a difficult proposition for any team and Burnley will be prepared for a backlash. So it will be all eyes on the Clarets defence and captain Ben Mee, who has enjoyed a stellar campaign to date, will be determined to keep the visitors at bay. He will likely come up against Gabriel Jesus and if he can keep the Brazilian marksman quiet then Sean Dyche’s men will be halfway to a positive result.

Key stat: Only Virgil van Dijk (75) has won more aerial duels as a defender than Mee (70) in the Premier League this season.

Man City: Gabriel Jesus

The absence of Sergio Aguero should be Jesus’ gain. This is, after all, the moment he’s been waiting for. Last time out against Newcastle United it didn’t go too well but, given the lack of options at Guardiola’s disposal, the striker will surely be given another opportunity to put things right. Man City will know what to expect from Burnley, so the question is can Jesus perform on a cold Tuesday night at Turf Moor?

Key stat: Jesus has now gone 302 minutes since registering his last Premier League goal.

Team news

Burnley

Charlie Taylor is a doubt after going off early in Burnley’s recent defeat against Crystal Palace, meaning Erik Pieters starts. Johann Berg Gudmundsson, though, is ruled out as he’s recovering from injury.

Confirmed XI: Pope; Bardsley, Tarkowski, Mee, Pieters; Drinkwater, Cork, Hendrick, Lennon, McNeil; Wood.

Man City

Guardiola has a number of players missing through injury, most notably Aguero and Aymeric Laporte. Fernandinho starts alongside Nicolas Otamendi in the centre of defence with Rodri replacing İlkay Gündoğan in midfield.

Confirmed XI: Ederson; Walker, Otamendi, Fernandinho, Angelino; De Bruyne, Rodri, D. Silva; B. Silva, Jesus, Sterling.

Squawka prediction

This will not be an easy game for Man City, not only because of the opposition (and their shaky defence) but also because of the quick turnaround from matchday 14.

On this occasion we fancy the side from Manchester to just about grab all three points, with a solitary goal in it.

Scoreline prediction: Burnley 1-2 Man City
