The Internet reacts as Dortmund choke vs Mainz to hand Bayern league title
Borussia Dortmund endured a final day to forget as Bayern Munich won their 11th consecutive Bundesliga title in dramatic fashion.
Edin Terzić’s side came into matchday 34 sitting in the catbird seat, albeit two points clear of second-place Bayern, though knew victory against Mainz 05 at home ends an 11-year title drought.

Bayern, now coached by ex-BVB head coach Thomas Tuchel, needed all three points at Cologne as well as help from the 05ers.
With memories of previous last-round climaxes, such as what took place in the 1999/2000 and 2000/01 seasons, both instances seeing Bayern come back from the dead, some nervously felt history would repeat itself.
For those who see the world in black and yellow it unfortunately came to pass. Dortmund went into half-time 2-0 down while Bayern led 1-0. Dortmund would score two unanswered second-half goals but it was too little too late as Jamal Musiala’s 89th-minute winner ensured German football’s undisputed kings reign into an eleventh year.
Excruciating scenes at the Westfalenstadion contrasted with scenes of jubilation 58 miles away. No one could believe what happened and that was no different across social media and the wider internet. Here are some of the very many reactions.

Others weren’t so kind feeling Dortmund can only blame themselves.
Dortmund bottle the league in the most embarassing fashion and the fans clap the players and manager for ‘the ride’, everything wrong with the sport
Bayern deserve to win the league every single year, great club with standards— james (@registarodri) May 27, 2023
dortmund got the whole world watching the bundesliga because everyone’s rooting for them only for them bottle ?

Borussia Dortmund have NO ONE to blame but themselves. when Bayern gave them every single chance to win by dropping points. Diabolical mentality pic.twitter.com/Di6yedqAWk

Dortmund we’re unable to beat relegation bound Bochum and Stuttgart after the debacle against Bayern.
The title wasn’t just lost today. It’s specific moments in crunch time that BVB weren’t able to capitalize on. Bayern gave them lifelines. BVB showed their mental fragility.

Dortmund must review their recruitment policy and sign lot of experience guys to be able to compete with Bayern. These young talents they’ve signed of late have showed they lack the mentality to play for a top team. They should rather build a proper academy to complement it

Bayern has big mentality
Dortmund has small mentalityAh like Mainz everybody dey score u make he score you??
— Perry (@perrryyyy_) May 27, 2023
Once Dortmund turned themselves into a football business rather than a football club with a winning mentality, they ceased to be a serious club. Selling Dembele, Sancho or Bellingham for huge fees is their ‘trophy’ nowadays.

Unreal bottle job by Borussia Dortmund. They had it. But it slipped away. This proves how important mentality is at the end of the day
— Real Talk Manchester City (@RealTalkMCFC) May 27, 2023
I’m highly disappointed with Dortmund. This is not the first and 2nd time they bottle leads. They are not ready at all. This habit of selling their breakthrough and stars players especially to Bayern Munich must stop. They must change their mentality.

Even without playing today, Arsenal was still catching strays.

Its got to be hard being a Dortmund fan. Every season your club sells its best players and some of them to your biggest rival and then you get that one chance to win the league and you bottle it. pic.twitter.com/1SDFmSjzbT

I have never witnessed a heartbreak like for Dortmund, how can you lose a final game at home and lose a trophy by goal difference ? losers mentality just like Arsenal.
