Sporting CP playmaker Bruno Fernandes has flirted with the idea of joining Inter Milan this summer amid strong Premier League interest.

Manchester City were believed to have been close on a deal to sign the Leoes ace last month, but reports in Portugal suggest Tottenham Hotspur are now front runners for his signature while Manchester United are also reportedly interested in the midfielder.

Could Fernandes join Inter? Five things to know…

  • Fernandes was instrumental in 2018/19 as Sporting finished third in the Primeira Liga.
  • The 24-year-old captain scored 32 goals and registered 18 assists in all competitions.
  • As such, he is highly sought-after across the continent with a number of PL clubs eyeing his services.
  • Sporting teammate Stefan Ristovski has already begged his skipper to remain in Lisbon.
  • But it is believed Fernandes will part company this summer and Inter Milan have now emerged as a possible destination.

However, the Maia-born midfielder has now cast doubt on a move to English soil after admitting links to the Nerazzurri are “important” to him, while also citing a pleasant experience in Serie A during his time with Novara, Udinese and Sampdoria as a possible indication of his summer intentions.

Antonio Conte joined the San Siro club after Luciano Spalletti was relieved of his duties last month, and Fernandes was quick to namedrop the former Chelsea boss in his latest comments.

Speaking to Sport Mediaset, he said: “I was very happy in Italy and still watch Serie A games regularly.

“I do not have the slightest idea if it’s true that Inter are interested in me. They have a great Coach now in Antonio Conte who did so well at Juventus and with Italy. Of course, seeing my name associated with Inter is important.”

‘Liverpool over Man City’

Should Fernandes opt for a move to the Premier League, then it may come as no surprise to see him pitch up at Anfield after the Portugal international revealed he prefers Liverpool’s style of play to that of reigning champions Manchester City.

Fernandes told De Cadeirinha: “I like Liverpool a lot more, it’s a more direct, more offensive, maybe less organised, but more intense football, when you do not have the ball possession you are more intense.

“In Liverpool they are more individual players, especially in the midfield, usually playing three very aggressive players and recovering the ball, then they have three players at the front who are lethal, when they have the opportunity, to be the difference.”
