    Bournemouth 1-0 Man Utd: Full player ratings as a former Red Devil burns Solskjaer’s side

    In a rainy afternoon of football, Bournemouth beat Manchester United 1-0 on the South Coast.

    Manchester United bossed possession throughout the afternoon but never looked like they could break the Cherries down. Their lack of creativity was almost painful to watch and Bournemouth took the lead with a fabulous finish, their first goal since September. The Cherries them sliced United up on the break and saw out the win,

    Here’s how the players rated at the Vitality Stadium.

    Bournemouth

    Aaron Ramsdale – 6 – Had basically nothing to do but commanded his box well at least.

    Adam Smith – 5 – Couldn’t live with Marcus Rashford’s movement and gave Ashley Young plenty of room to deliver crosses. Was never punished for either of these things.

    Steve Cook – 8 – A solid no-nonsense display from the Bournemouth skipper. Rarely caught out and threw up some immense blocks.

    Nathan Aké – 9 – Very impressive at the back. Shepherded everything United threw at Bournemouth out of danger without breaking a sweat. Absolutely immense from the Dutchman.

    Diego Rico – 7 – Repeatedly exposed by United in the early going but recovered well most of the time.

    Philip Billing – 8 – Battled brilliantly from start to finish. Excelled with the ball and without it. Knew when to hoof it away and when to play it short. An immense performance.

    Jefferson Lerma – 7 – Some nice passes. Lucky to not give a penalty away for knocking Martial over. Tackled well.

    Harry Wilson – 6 – A livewire in possession.

    Ryan Fraser – 6 – Worked his socks off up and down the touchline to protect Sergio Rico and offer attacking width. Did little on the ball but never had the energy really.

    Joshua King – 7 – The former United academy prospect opened the scoring with a fantastic bit of skill to flick the ball over Wan-Bissaka and stab it below David De Gea. Looked a threat on the break as well.

    Callum Wilson – 6 – Ran the break superbly, but was just lacking the final touch all game long.

    Substitutes:

    Lewis Cook (for Wilson 86′) – n/a – A late sub to kill some time.

    Manchester United

    David De Gea – 6 – Saved well when called on. Could do little about the goal but stopped King from scoring on the hour mark with a superb block and made a great diving stop from Wilson, too.

    Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6 – Defended superbly on the front-foot in the first-half, cutting out countless Bournemouth attacks before they began. Got caught out for the Bournemouth goal as he defended King like a full-back would and got punished. Recovered to shut the Cherries down again in the second period.

    Victor Lindelof – 5 – Shocking defending for Bournemouth’s goal. Woefully out of position and stood around doing nothing. Good passing in the second half.

    Harry Maguire – 5 – Mostly solid, but needed to stamp his authority over the Bournemouth goal and didn’t. Good forward passing in the second half.

    Ashley Young – 3 – All at sea. Couldn’t handle the quick passing of Bournemouth. Exposed for the goal but that was just one of many times the Cherries made him look foolish. Was given plenty of chances to put good balls in late in the second half but didn’t manage even one.

    Scott McTominay – 5 – Ran his socks off as per usual. Not sharp enough with the ball.

    Fred – 7 – Missed an early chance. Looked decent first-half but really pushed the tempo superbly second-half with some incisive passes. Kept United on the front-foot and almost created a goal with a wonderful cross for Mason Greenwood.

    Andreas Pereira – 2 – Worked hard as per usual but has such an overwhelming lack of quality on the ball, including from set-pieces, that he brings the level of the side down several notches. Wasted several excellent passes from Fred particularly in the second half. Subbed off for Jesse Lingard about 22 minutes too late.

    Daniel James – 5 – Found lots of space early on. Good crosses. Got shut out of the game as it wore on but kept on pushing forward. Subbed late on.

    Marcus Rashford – 6 – Some supreme touches and movement but held on the periphery of the game by his team-mates. Looked United’s most dangerous player by far.

    Anthony Martial – 4 – Largely uninvolved with the game, showing none of the brilliant movement he usually does.

    Substitutes:

    Jesse Lingard (for Pereira 68′) – 4 – Wasted a great chance. Did nothing else.

    Brandon Williams (for Wan-Bissaka 81′) – 6 – Immediately added positivity and thrust to the side. Created a great chance.

    Mason Greenwood (for James 81′) – 5 – Hit the post with a late chance at the back-post almost immediately after coming on.
