Schalke are still hoping to salvage their Bundesliga campaign when they make the trip to Borussia-Park this Saturday at 17:30 pm to face Borussia Monchengladbach.
Gladbach made a strong start to this Bundesliga season, but their recent form hasn’t been great. They suffered a 4-3 away loss at Bayer Leverkusen prior to the recent international break and then only managed a 1-1 home draw against Augsburg last weekend.
However, it has to be said that Borussia Monchengladbach have enjoyed an amazing Champions League campaign, having collected eight points from their group with Real Madrid, Inter and Shakhtar Donetsk. Gladbach go into this upcoming gameweek on the back of a comfortable 4-0 home win against Shakhtar, having also managed to win in Ukraine by a 6-0 scoreline.
By contrast, Schalke are having their worst start to a Bundesliga season. They are rock bottom with just three points after eight rounds. Schalke are yet to win and come into this clash on the back of a 0-2 home loss at the hands of Wolfsburg.
Nothing is seemingly working in Gelsenkirchen at the moment, where they currently hold both the worst offensive and defensive records in the division with just five goals scored and 24 conceded. Away from home, Manuel Baum’s men have only won just one game in 14 competitive trips, a 4-1 victory over the amateur side Schweinfurt in the DFB Pokal Cup three weeks ago.
Can Borussia Monchengladbach extend their unbeaten home streak in the Bundesliga to five games? Or will win their first league game of the season?

Borussia Monchengladbach and Schalke’s previous line-ups:
- Borussia Monchengladbach (vs Shakhtar Donetsk): Sommer, Wendt, Elvedi, Ginter, Lainer, Lazaro, Kramer, Neuhaus, Embolo, Stindl, Thuram.
- Schalke (vs Wolfsburg): Ronnow, Nastasic, Stambouli, Thiaw, Oczipka, Harit, Mascarell, Serdar, Ludewig, Uth, Paciencia.
Borussia Monchengladbach are still without Jonas Hofmann, who is missing due to a thigh injury. Ramy Bensebaini is also unavailable for this match due to illness.
Salif Sane, Goncalo Paciencia and Ralf Fahrmann are all sidelined through injury and won’t be able to make the trip for Schalke. Amine Harit and Nabil Bentaleb have both been suspended by the club and it seems that they will both leave the club next summer.
In addition, the contract of Schalke’s striker Vedad Ibisevic will be dissolved in December.
Player to watch: Lars Stindl (Borussia Monchengladbach)
The absence of Jonas Hofmann, who is Gladbach’s leading Bundesliga goal creator, wasn’t felt in the Champions League midweek but there’s no guarantee of a similar result this weekend. Marco Rose nonetheless will be expecting a performance from captain Lars Stindl, who is enjoying a strong campaign having netted four times across his previous six league outings. The 32-year-old German forward is yet to score at home with all of his strikes coming on the road. Can he break that duck against a hapless Schalke 04 side?
