Boca Juniors vs Santos build-up, previous line-ups & injury news:
Boca opened their Libertadores campaign with a 1-0 win over Bolivian giants The Strongest last week and followed that up with a solid 2-0 victory against Huracan in the Argentine Primera Division. The Blue and Gold are going well both continentally and domestically and, considering the firepower at their disposal, are rightly among the favourites for this season’s competition.
They face a Santos side desperately seeking some consistency. The Brazilians have won just one of their last seven games across all competitions and lost their Libertadores group stage opener 2-0 against Ecuadorian side Barcelona SC. All of this has resulted in manager Ariel Holan handing in his resignation, leaving Santos rudderless at a key point in the season.
Though they have won this competition six times — with only Independiente winning it more (7) — Boca haven’t lifted the Libertadores since 2007, while three-time winners Santos haven’t tasted success since 2011.
- Boca Juniors (vs Huracan): Rossi; Buffarini, Lopez, Izquierdoz, Fabra; Medina, Varela, Almendra, Villa; Soldano, Tevez.
- Santos (vs Corinthians): Vladimir; Felipe, Reis, Tim, Copete; Perpetuo, Guilherme, Malthus, Lourenco; Marques, Jorge.
Mauro Zarate remains sidelined with a calf injury while Marcos Rojo is also injured for the hosts. Santos picked up no new injuries against Corinthians in their last match and could welcome Lucas Braga and Vinicius Balieiro back into the starting XI.

Player to watch: Franco Soldano (Boca Juniors)
Carlos Tevez might be the biggest name in the current Boca squad, but fellow forward Franco Soldano is the man in form right now. The 26-year-old initially struggled for consistency following his move from Olympiacos last season but has scored in each of his last two domestic appearances.
Though he’s never been the most prolific goalscorer across his career, Soldano is a powerful aerial threat, willing worker and both aggressive and effective with his hold-up play. His main job against Santos will be to occupy the Brazilian centre-backs, keeping Tevez and Sebastian Villa out of physical battles and more focused on scoring goals.
