Newcastle vs West Ham: Predictions

Newcastle beat West Ham 2-0 away from home on the opening day of the season but since then, the two sides have trended in completely opposing directions. Despite winning 2-1 at Burnley last time out, the Magpies remain 17th in the table, six points clear of Fulham in the relegation zone, though they do have a game in hand on Scott Parker’s men.

West Ham, meanwhile, remain in the fourth and final Champions League spot, a point clear of London rivals Chelsea with just seven games to go. David Moyes’ men have lost just one of their last five Premier League games and have scored three goals in their last three outings. Given the Hammers were one of the favourites to go down this season, securing Champions League football would be an incredible achievement for Moyes, on par with how he led Everton into the top-four back in 2005.

Meanwhile, Newcastle have won just four of their 23 games against teams in the top four since returning to the Premier League in 2017 (D2 L17).

West Ham have scored three goals in each of their last three Premier League games – they last scored 3+ goals in four top-flight games in a row back in August/September 1928.

Newcastle’s Callum Wilson has scored more Premier League goals against West Ham than he has vs any other side in the competition, netting eight goals in nine appearances against the Hammers.

With eight goals in just nine Premier League games at West Ham this season, Jesse Lingard has equalled his best goal tally in a single top-flight campaign (also 8 in 33 apps in 2017-18).

West Ham have gone 3-0 ahead in each of their last three Premier League games – in the competition’s history, only Manchester United have scored the first three goals in four consecutive matches before, doing so twice in February 2010 and September 2011. The Hammers have also been ahead within 30 minutes in four of their last five league matches.
