Watford will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing season last time out as they were relegated from the Premier League. Rob Edwards is the man in the dugout after an impressive spell in charge of Forest Green Rovers.
The Hornets have class at this level with Ismaila Sarr, Emmanuel Dennis and Joao Pedro still at the club going into the 2022/23 campaign. They need to improve a defence that shipped 77 goals last season, all be it at a higher level.
Sheffield United will be hoping to go one step better than last season and achieve automatic promotion following their play-off appearances last campaign. Paul Heckingbottom did a great job after taking over the club midway through 2021/22.
The Blades will hope one of their front players (Billy Sharp, Rhian Brewster or Ollie McBurnie) gets among the goals this season. Ciaran Clark has been brought in on loan from Newcastle to boost an already solid back line.

Watford vs Sheffield United Match Stats
Both these teams are expected to go well this season so this will be an interesting early game to watch. It is tough one to predict in terms of match results but one angle to attack is the player markets.
Ismaila Sarr was a standout at this level two seasons ago and he can be expected to go well again especially if he is playing for a move before the end of the window. The Senegal star can be backed at 5/2 to score at anytime and 4/1 to assist at any point and these look worth taking.
Watford vs Sheffield United: Squawka Says
Scoreline prediction: Watford 2-2 Sheffield United
26 December 2019 – Sheffield United 1-1 Watford – Premier League
5 October 2019 – Watford 0-0 Sheffield United – Premier League
12 March 2011 – Watford 3-0 Sheffield United – Championship
2 October 2010 – Sheffield United 0-1 Watford – Championship
2 February 2010 – Watford 3-0 Sheffield United – Championship
Strangely for two sides in similar orbits (the lower reaches of the Premier League and the top end of the Championship) these sides have only met twice in the last decade. Their last two meetings came in 2019 so not much can be read into these especially as for the Hornets that was about 73 managers ago.
