It was a routine win for Billy McKinlay’s men last week, who was standing in for the suspended David Moyes, as West Ham beat Viborg 3-1 in the first leg of their play-off qualifier, offering the club some much-needed respite from their woeful start to the Premier League season, in which they are pointless and goalless.

Despite struggling to find the back of the net in their opening three Premier League games of 2022/23, West Ham managed to breach the Viborg goal three times last week. Gianluca Scamacca, who is yet to start for the club in the English top flight, will almost certainly get a run-out here to bulk up his minutes and give him some much-needed game time ahead of the weekend’s trip to Aston Villa. The towering Italian was a force in the first leg, linking play well and opening his account for the Hammers. With minutes in the Premier League so far coming at a premium for him, he’ll make sure to capitalise on his pitch time this week.
