Ukraine vs Northern Ireland: Predictions
Ukraine have been placed in a fairly interesting group for Euro 2020, placed alongside Netherlands, North Macedonia and Austria. But first they have to warm up for the tournament, starting with this friendly. Andriy Shevchenko’s side aren’t in the best of forms going into this game, winning just two of their 12 games since the start of 2020. Six of the remaining 10 games were defeats, but Ukraine have steady the ship slightly with four consecutive draws (since Shevchenko took charge) including a stalemate against France in World Cup qualifying .
Northern Ireland, meanwhile, will have to watch on as their United Kingdom counterparts all participate in Euro 2020 this summer. Ian Baraclough’s men have already played over the friendly window, beating Malta 3-0 on Sunday for their first victory under their new manager. They will, therefore, be looking to built on that win with a positive result before their players head off for a well deserved break following the crazy 2020/21 campaign.

Ukraine vs Northern Ireland: Match Stats
Apparently Ukraine only deal in draws since Shevchenko took charge, with all four of his games ending 1-1. That includes a friendly against Bahrain at the end of May, and with Ukraine playing for fitness rather than results, they may avoid any drastic action. At the same time, Northern Ireland have only just got their first win under Baraclough against a Malta side they were expected to beat.
The main threat to Northern Ireland’s goal will be West Ham United’s Andriy Yarmolenko, who is just 10 goals behind manager Shevchenko in Ukraine’s all-time top scorers’ list. Yarmolenko sat out of the draw against Bahrain and also missed Ukraine’s past five matches, but he will be looking to end a five-game scoring streak since netting in a 2-1 win over Switzerland in March 2020.
16 June 2016 – Ukraine 0-2 Northern Ireland – Euro 2016
6 September 2003 – Ukraine 0-0 Northern Ireland – European Championship Qualifying

2 April 1997 – Ukraine 2-1 Northern Ireland – World Cup Qualifying
31 August 1996 – Northern Ireland 0-1 Ukraine – World Cup Qualifying
After winning the opening two fixtures between these two nations, Ukraine are winless in the past three, including a 2-0 defeat at Euro 2020. However, the other two games in that winless run have been goalless draws.
