Turkey vs Netherlands: Predictions
The Netherlands have broken their major tournament drought after qualifying for the 2020 European Championships and Frank de Boer’s side will be looking to continue their fine run as they begin their mission to qualify for the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
Senol Günes’ Turkey side come into these World Cup qualifying games having only won one of their last six games as they finished last in their National League Group B. Günes has rejoined the national side after his heroics in the 2002 World Cup where he guided Turkey to a third-place finish.
The Netherlands’ turn around from failing to qualify for the last two major tournaments has been fueled by their blend of youth and experience with the likes of Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt both playing prominent roles in De Boer’s starting XI, whilst Memphis Depay and Gini Wijnaldum provide the side with a wealth of experience.
Everton’s Cenk Tosun is one of the few familiar faces in the Turkey side for Premier League fans as the striker is expected to lead the frontline on Wednesday evening. The 29-year-old joined Besiktas on loan in February and despite only making one appearance for them in the Süper Lig he has found the back of the net twice in the 28 minutes on the pitch.
Turkey vs Netherlands: Match Stats
Depay is in fine form in Ligue 1 this season with Lyon and the French forward has netted 14 times in the league this season. The 27-year-old has also provided nine assists across his 30 league appearances which has helped his side to reach third in the table. Depay has scored two in his last two games for the Dutch national side and will have his sights on continuing his fone form on Wednesday.
In the Netherlands’ last eight games, De Boer’s side have only found the back of the net on eight occasions and have only won one of their last four away games. However, their opposition have only won one of their last four home games which will provide the Dutch side with some encouragement going into their opening qualifying game on Wednesday.
