Tottenham vs Brentford: Predictions
Tottenham moved to bring in Jose Mourinho as manager just over a year ago with the belief that the Portuguese manager could sprinkle some of his trophy-winning magic on the club. As they enter this semi-final of the EFL Cup against Championship opposition, this is the closest they are yet to come in the former Chelsea man’s reign.
In the Premier League, Spurs returned to winning form over the weekend with a 3-0 victory over Leeds United, a result that lifted them into the top four following defeats for Everton, Aston Villa and Chelsea. Mourinho has an excellent record in this competition, having lifted the trophy three times with Chelsea and once with Manchester United.
Although Brentford would’ve been a preferable draw to Manchester United or Manchester City for the Lilywhites, the Championship outfit should be overlooked at Spurs’ peril here. The Bees only missed out on promotion last season due to a play-off final loss against local rivals Fulham, but they’re looking to put that right this season.
As things stand, Thomas Frank’s men are fourth in the second tier table having gone 16 games without tasting defeat in all competitions. They’ve dumped three Premier League sides out of this competition already in Newcastle United, Southampton and Fulham – can they cause another upset to reach the final here?

Tottenham vs Brentford: Match Stats
Expect some goals here. Spurs returned to a more attacking style over the weekend and in turn racked up three goals in a home win over Leeds United. Brentford meanwhile, have failed to find the net in just one of their last 11 games and in Ivan Toney, they possess a striker with 16 goals to his name in all competitions already this season.
The former Peterborough United man is not afraid to have an attempt at goal in the Championship and has registered 61 so far this season, with 26 on target. Harry Kane has registered the same amount of overall shots in 16 games in the Premier League this year, with 23 being on target. Heung min Son has managed 17 shots on target in as many games.
