Swindon are having a decent season in League Two under manager Ben Garner who has them fifth in the division. Their recent form has not been great with just one win in the last five although that victory came on New Year’s Day and was a 5-2 hammering of Northampton. The squad are not short of goals with Tyreece Simpson their leading scorer on nine. At home, the Robins are strong with only defeat here in their last six and that came in the EFL Trophy.
Man City are flying high in the Premier League with a strong Christmas and New Year meaning they sit ten points clear of Chelsea in second. In domestic games it is now 11 straight victories for Pep and his team. City have won their last six domestic games on the road although they did go out in the League Cup at West Ham. Pep and his side have made the FA Cup final just once in the last eight years (beating Watford 6-0 in 2019).
Swindon vs Man City: Match Stats
The visitors are likely to make a few changes here and this could unsettle the backline while hosts Swindon are a decent attacking unit. Cheltenham, Port Vale and Newport have all managed a goal against the Blue half of Manchester in recent seasons so get some extra value by backing a City win and both teams to score.
Such is the depth of the club that will be hard to know who plays for Man City but you would presume this is the perfect game for Cole Palmer. Palmer is a highly-rated 19-year-old midfielder who is capable of playing in the false nine. He has netted in the League Cup and Champions League this season and looks more than capable of bagging a goal here.
18 December 1999- Man City 3-0 Swindon- Championship
21 February 1998- Swindon 1-3 Man City- Championship
27 September 1997- Man City 6-0 Swindon- Championship
22 February 1997- Man City 3-0 Swindon- Championship
These sides have not met since 2000 so there is very little to be gathered from the head-to-head record. For what it is worth City have won each of their last five against the Robins and seven of eight.
