Stoke vs Sheffield Wednesday: Predictions

Michael O’Neill’s side tasted a heavy defeat to Norwich on Saturday as the hosts put four past the travelling Stoke. The turn of the year has brought defeats from the three sides which were relegated from the Premier League last season and four draws which has left Stoke seven points adrift of the playoff spots.

Despite three wins in their last four games, Sheffield still sits in the relegation zone but Neil Thompson will be hopeful of survival if his side can keep their recent form up.

Stoke will still have their eyes on making the playoffs this season, however, Wednesday’s recent form suggests the hosts should not overlook the challenge they may face in Tuesday’s clash.

Tuesday offers Stoke a great opportunity to get their season back on track against a side which finds themselves in a relegation battle this season but it could also see them slip further afloat from their playoff hopes if they underestimate the challenge the Owls can provide.

Stoke vs Sheffield Wednesday: Match Stats

Nick Powell has scored eight times this season and all have come within the penalty area.

Nick Powell has helped himself to eight goals this season and three of them have come since the turn of the year. The 26-year-old midfielder has been a proven threat in and around the edge of the box this season and has earned himself the title of Stoke’s top scorer this season. If Stoke are to get their first win of the year, it is likely he will play a huge part in that.

No wins for Stoke this year coincide with their poor defensive record. Tuesday’s hosts have only kept one clean sheet this year which came in their 0-0 draw with reading earlier this month. Despite being in the bottom three, the Owls have proven over the past few games they are capable in front of goal.
