Stoke vs Leicester: Predictions

Leicester are currently third in the Premier League and in a good position to keep hold of a Champions League spot, three points clear of fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur. Brendan Rodgers’ men are also on a four-game unbeaten run since defeat to Everton in mid-December, winning two and drawing two.

However, the league will take a backseat this weekend as Leicester may look to build a cup run and a potential final. Last season, the Foxes reached the FA Cup quarter-finals before being knocked out by Chelsea, but they face a Stoke side that may look to take a Premier League scalp.

A Premier League side themselves until a few short years ago, Stoke have struggled in the Championship since their relegation in 2018, finishing in the bottom half of the table twice. However, they are in good standing now and while promotion may be their sole focus, an FA Cup run could build momentum.

Stoke have already faced Premier League opposition this season, beating Wolves and Aston Villa, and losing to Tottenham in the Carabao Cup. However, the Potters haven’t reached the fourth round of the FA Cup since 2015/16, being knocked out at the first opportunity in each of the past four seasons, losing to Wolves, Coventry, Shrewsbury and Brentford.

Stoke vs Leicester: Match Stats

Although Stoke have beat Premier League teams twice this season their recent goalscoring form hasn’t been great. In their past 10 games, the Potters have scored just six goals across all competitions, managed four wins. They have also failed to score on four occasions, while have three clean sheets in their past six matches (albeit going three without one).

Leicester have rotated their teams quite often when it comes to cup competitions, both domestic and continental. In the Europa League, Kelechi Iheanacho has been their man, scoring three goals and recording three assists in six appearances. His form in the Premier League hasn’t been great, but against Championship opposition, the Nigerian could pounce.
