Stoke vs Hull predictions and stats: Side with The Potters at a generous price

Stoke’s Friday night Championship clash with Hull gained another major talking point when the Potters surprisingly sacked manager Steven Schumacher this week just five games into the season.

Stoke are well above Friday’s opponents in the table, in 13th place, while the Tigers have yet to win a game and are 22nd with just three points.

City moved quickly to fill their vacancy, appointing Norwich coach Narcis Pelach as their new manager on Wednesday.

It’s hard to assess what the atmosphere will be like for the game after those unexpected events,  but the clash is live on Sky Sports Football with kick-off set for 20:00.

Stoke vs Hull Predictions

Stoke to Win (21/20 with bet65)

Stoke have had a more dramatic week than might have been expected but it doesn’t change the fact that they have a stronger squad than Hull’s and should be looking to pick up a relatively comfortable home win.

The Potters have won five of their last seven games against the Tigers, who have gone eight matches without a victory including the end of last season.

Hull have kept only one clean sheet in their last nine outings and they have failed to score in their last three matches, which means they are now averaging just 0.5 goals per game this season.

Stoke’s sole home defeat this season came by a single goal to leaders West Brom and Hull have managed only one goal in two away games so far.

Stoke to win 2-0 (9/1 with bet365)

Stoke have conceded only two goals in their last four league and cup games and can be fancied to keep their fifth clean sheet of the season against a Hull side who are in a goal drought.

It’s unlikely that their new manager will have had time to install a totally new style of play for this game and if they just keep doing what they have been defensively, the Potters should be well on their way to picking up the points against the Tigers.

A 5-0 EFL Cup win over Middlesbrough was the only time Stoke have scored more than twice this season, though, so the home fans may have to be content with a solid 2-0 home success, with Hull losing to nil for the third successive game.

How to watch Stoke vs Hull

Viewers in the United Kingdom can watch Stoke City vs. Hull City live on Friday, September 20th, at 8 p.m. on Sky Sports football.

How both teams go into Stoke vs Hull

Stoke won four of their first six games in all competitions this season, including Championship victories over Coventry and Plymouth, but a third league loss of the campaign against Oxford last Saturday proved to be Steven Schumacher’s last match as manager.

Their earlier defeats against Watford and West Brom were against two of the stronger sides in the division, but the setback against the League One play-off winners saw Schumacher join Gary Rowett, Nathan Jones, Michael O’Neill and Alex Neil on the list of former Stoke managers.

Alex Morris and Ryan Shawcross took charge of the team for Tuesday’s EFL Cup third-round shootout win over League Two Fleetwood, a match which the home side had dominated before conceding an added-time equaliser.

Hull have far more to worry about than Stoke, given they are yet to win a match this season. They started out with three league draws against Bristol City, Plymouth and Millwall, but have lost their last two Championship outings in derby matches against Leeds and Sheffield United to fall into the bottom three.

Stoke Team News

Stoke will be without Lynden Gooch due to injury while Ben Pearson, Sam Gallagher and Ashley Phillips are also battling injury issues.

Hull Team News

Dogukan Sinik and Andy Smith will miss the game for Hull while Harvey Cartwright and Ryan Longman (shoulder) are other concerns and Steven Alzate may lack the fitness to appear in this match.

Stoke vs Hull Head-to-Head Record

Interestingly, the home team has not won any of the last five meetings between the clubs, who each won on the road in their encounters last season. Stoke won the most recent clash 2-0 in March.
