*Odds correct as of 10:30 on August 14

We’re into the final four of the 2023 Women’s World Cup and Spain will be looking to ride their wave of momentum all the way to Sunday’s showcase. The European nation had a rocky build up to the tournament with 15 of their players going on strike due to unhappiness with the Spanish Football Federation and manager Jorge Vilda, but 12 of them made themselves available for selection with three making the squad. So, Spain have benefitted from the returns of the likes of Aitana Bonmati and Mariona Caldentey, and are on a historic run at the World Cup, having never previously progressed past the round of 16. After finishing second in their group behind Japan, Spain have so far beaten Switzerland and Netherlands in the knockout stages.

Sweden, meanwhile, are in the final four of the World Cup for the fifth time but they have only advanced to the final on one of the previous four occasions. That came in 2003 when they lost in the final to Germany, but when they have lost the semi-final, Sweden have always finished third including in 2019 when they beat England in the third place play-off. Sweden have had a tough run to the semi-finals too, albeit after an easy group, having to knock out previous champions USA and Japan en route to the final four, the latter having been in great form at the tournament.

Spain Women vs Sweden Women match tip

Spain 6+ shots on target @ 15/8 with Sky Bet

Spain are a very attacking team and they are by far and away the best at the 2023 Women’s World Cup so far. La Roja are the only team to have over 100 shots at the tournament and have the most shots on target with 45, averaging nine per game. At the same time, Sweden have faced 22 shots on target, though they have only conceded two goals.

Spain Women vs Sweden Women Bet-Builder tip

Sweden to qualify, BTTS & Jenni Hermoso 2+ shots on target

Spain are now the favourites to win the Women’s World Cup but Sweden have already knocked out Japan and United States, with Zecira Musovic putting some kind of magical spell around her goal. Sweden also have the upper hand in previous meetings with Spain, yet to lose in 11 matches. However, they will find it hard to stop a Spain side that has scored 15 goals this summer, with Jenni Hermoso having seven shots on target.

Spain Women vs Sweden Women team news

Jorge Vilda has made the bold decision of keeping Alexia Putellas out of the starting XI in recent games and it’s likely to stay that way as he looks to manage her return from injury, while also sticking with that has clearly worked for him.

There shouldn’t be any reason for Peter Gerhardsson to make any changes to his starting XI, with Zecira Musovic a brick wall between the sticks.
