Spain looked in formidable nick during their World Cup qualifying campaign, and the 2010 champions will now aim to carry that momentum into this game against Iceland as Luis Enrique ramps up his preparations ahead of November’s start date in Qatar.
La Roja came through a stern examination from Albania on Saturday evening in Barcelona, winning 2-1 thanks to Dani Olmo’s late strike after Myrto Uzuni restored parity five minutes from time. Enrique knows his side will have to perform better if they are to make a significant splash later this year.
As for Iceland, their hopes of reaching a second World Cup were dashed in the qualifiers as Arnar Vidarsson’s men finished fifth in Group J, winning just two games, which came against bottom nation Liechtenstein. They enter this friendly off the back of a 1-1 draw against Finland on Saturday night.

Spain vs Iceland: Match Stats
For all the attacking prowess that Spain pack in the final third, they are a defensively well-drilled side. La Roja have kept clean sheets in four of their last seven international matches, with Aymeric Laporte starting in each of those shutouts, illustrating just how influential he has been since switching international allegiances last year. It will perhaps come as no surprise to know that Albania’s goal over the weekend came as Laporte was kept on the bench. Expect the Manchester City centre-back to reclaim his starting berth on Tuesday.

It’s been 15 years since these two nations last locked metaphorical horns. They met in the qualifiers for Euro 2008 in Group F, with Iceland finishing second-from-last but still managing to sneak a 1-1 in Reykjavik. Former Tottenham and Barnsley midfielder Emil Hallfredsson broke the deadlock, before Andres Iniesta broke Iceland hearts in the 86th minute, denying the nation a famous triumph against the eventual tournament winners.
