West Ham’s early season form has curtailed somewhat in recent weeks. Hammers’ fans dreams of Champions League qualification are far from over though, as they head into Christmas in fifth place, just four points behind Arsenal in fourth and with a game in hand.

However, David Moyes’ men come into their Boxing Day fixture against Southampton on the back of a four-game winless run in all competitions after a midweek defeat to London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the EFL Cup. Can they bounce back with three points here?

Southampton are the visitors to the London Stadium for this Boxing Day clash. The Saints have been far from impressive so far this season, but they do possess a healthy six point gap over the relegation zone and they do seem to have some loyalty towards manager Ralph Hassnehüttl.

The Austrian boss may be feeling some pressure at the moment however, as his team are winless in their last six Premier League matches, a run which included a defeat to bottom team Norwich City. They’ve picked up just one win on the road this season, so expectations are low for this trip to the capital.

West Ham vs Southampton: Match Stats

These two sides are among the top five for Corners Taken in the Premier League this season, with Southampton on 104 on an average of 6.1 per game and West Ham on 97 at an average of 5.7 per game. The Hammers even managed eight corners in their EFL Cup defeat at Spurs in midweek while no fewer than 17 corners were taken in the Saints’ last away match at Arsenal.

We can’t see many goals in this one though. West Ham have found the net just once in this four-game winless streak, while Southampton have drawn blanks in two of their last three away games in the Premier League. Expect a nervy affair between two sides in need of three points here.
