West Ham continue to push for the European places in the Premier League, but before they resume top-flight football with a daunting away trip to Liverpool at the weekend, attention turns to the FA Cup, where Southampton lie in wait on Wednesday night, who only recently put them to the sword.
A goalless draw in the Premier League occurred at Saint Mary’s back in September, before Ralph Hasenhuttl executed a 3-2 win at the London Stadium during the festive period, so David Moyes will be itching to exact revenge and ensure his side remain fighting on three fronts this term.
The Hammers take on Sevilla next week in the Europa League knockouts, but Moyes has never won a major honour during his storied managerial career, so he will want to keep his side in this competition and inch ever closing to a potential day out at Wembley, something he nearly achieved in the League Cup this season.
They reached the quarter-finals but just came up short to Tottenham. Southampton meanwhile are lurking somewhat precariously in ninth in the Premier League, more than safe from relegation danger, but perhaps just a little out of reach of the top six, placing a heavy emphasis on a potential FA Cup run to make something of 2021/22.

Southampton vs West Ham: Match Stats
West Ham have been slow starters in the Premier League this season, with 60% of their output coming in the second half of matches (28), so Southampton will perhaps start the brighter of the two sides, with Hasenhuttl’s men scoring more of their goals in the first half this campaign — though only slightly (18 to 16).
It’s likely to be a close contest. A draw occurred earlier this season at Southampton, and the South Coast club only just edged it on Boxing Day in a 3-2 win at West Ham, so this could be a game that drags into extra time. West Ham have been revitalised by a recent 1-0 win over fellow European challengers Wolves so enter this contest full of confidence and renewed vigour, something the Saints have been carrying for a while, recently collecting results over Man City, Man Utd and Spurs.
