It wasn’t too long ago that Sheffield United appeared to be putting up a fight against relegation, stringing together three wins in five games to slightly close the gap on the teams above them and move level with Derby County’s 11 points tally (the lowest in Premier League history). But since that third win, a 2-1 victory over West Bromwich Albion, the Blades have regressed once again, losing their past four.
As a result, they remain 15 points off safety and time is running out for them to catch up, with just 12 games left to play. To make matters worse, Chris Wilder recently admitted his future at the club is in doubt with talks “not happening” ahead of making plans for the Championship.
Sheffield United may have a chance to move off 11 points this weekend, however, as they face a Southampton side in poor form. Saints are winless in their past nine Premier League matches, losing eight and only drawing against Chelsea two weekends ago.
It’s form that has seen them fall away from the battle for European football and move dangerously close to the relegation zone, now just seven points clear of 18th-placed Fulham. A far cry from the Southampton team that once led the Premier League table in November (albeit for less than a day).

There aren’t too many hopes for this game dishing out the excitement given the form these two sides are in. Sheffield United are the lowest scorers in the Premier League this season, finding the net just 15 times in 26 matches. They have also failed to score in each of their past three matches, while Southampton are without a goal in two.
Not only are the sides poor in front of goal, but have also been struggling to get any points on the board this year. Between them, Sheffield United and Southampton have managed just four wins in 20 league matches since the start of 2021, losing 15 times. And while both teams cannot lose, neither really looks like getting a win.

Southampton’s 3-0 win over Sheffield United earlier this season pushed them to three consecutive league victories over the Blades, the first time they had achieved that feat since 1950. However, things have been fairly even between these two sides historically, with Sheffield United still enjoying the edge due to their domination in the early fixtures.
