United endured a difficult start to life under Erik ten Hag, opening the Premier League season with back-to-back defeats against Brighton and Brentford.
However, the Red Devils stopped the rot in brilliant fashion with a hugely creditable 2-1 victory over rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on Monday.
They are now looking to win consecutive Premier League matches for the first time since February, although they have lost their last seven on the road in the English top-flight.
Southampton will look to capitalise as they seek a first league win over United at St Mary’s in 12 attempts.
And recent times suggest the Saints cannot rely on home comforts, having lost five of their last seven in the Premier League in front of their own supporters.
Although, they did end an eight-game winless streak with an impressive turnaround at Leicester last weekend, before easing past Cambridge in the EFL Cup in midweek.
Southampton vs Man Utd: Match stats
United have lost just once in their 14 Premier League visits to St Mary’s – the sole defeat coming courtesy of a 1-0 reverse in August 2003.
Although, it is worth noting that the Red Devils have kept just a single clean sheet in their last 15 matches across all competitions.
That will encourage Southampton, who have conceded at least two goals in six of their seven most recent league games on home soil.
Man Utd quick out of the blocks?
At the beginning of Monday’s win over Liverpool, United attempted to become the latest side to score straight from the kick-off.
Bournemouth were the first side to truly perfect the four-pass move against Fulham last season; Dominic Solanke profiting within seconds.
Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain followed suit recently as Neymar and Lionel Messi set up Kylian Mbappe to open the scoring just eight seconds into their Ligue 1 clash with Clermont.
The Red Devils were less successful as Bruno Fernandes under-hit his attempted lay-off for Scott McTominay, with Liverpool quickly intercepting.
Although, they could well try again on Saturday with the pace of Marcus Rashford likely to be difficult for Southampton to weather should it come to fruition.
If you want to bet on United to try something similar this Saturday, a goal from the visitors within the opening 10 minutes is priced at 5/1 with Paddy Power, while Rashford is priced at 7/1 with 888sport to break the deadlock.
