Southampton vs Chelsea: Predictions
Since replacing Frank Lampard in the dugout, Tuchel has guided Chelsea to five wins (each coming in their last five games) and one draw across all competitions in a run which has seen them rise to fourth in the Premier League and advance into the FA Cup quarter-finals. The Blues comfortably dispatched Newcastle 2-0 last time out and another win here could see them move to within a point of Man Utd and Leicester City above them, for a short time at least.
Things couldn’t be more contrasting for hosts Southampton. Although they too have made it to the FA Cup quarter-finals, Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men have lost their last six Premier League games, conceding 20 goals in the process (3.3 per game) in what is their worst losing run in top-flight history. After looking set for a challenge at European qualification, Saints have slipped down to 13th in the table and although it’s unlikely they’ll be dragged into the relegation scrap, those fears will only grow the longer Southampton go without picking up results.

Southampton vs Chelsea: Match Stats
Timo Werner has been directly involved in more Premier League goals this season than any other player at the club (10 – five goals, five assists). The German was often a patchy striker during his time with RB Leipzig so his goal against Newcastle last time out could spur him on to further success.
Chelsea haven’t failed to win either of their league meetings with Southampton in a season since 2014-15, when they drew 1-1 both home and away against them.
Southampton have lost their last five home league games against Chelsea, their longest losing run against a specific opponent in their league history. However, they are unbeaten in their last two games against the Blues overall.
Danny Ings has the best minutes-per-goal ratio of any Southampton player with 15+ goals in Premier League history, with the England striker averaging a goal every 161 minutes for the club in the competition.
After losing seven in a row across all competitions between February 2016 and October 2018, Southampton have lost just one of their last four meetings with Chelsea, while they’ve taken four points from their last two games against the Blues.
