Southampton got off to the perfect start at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium, with James Ward-Prowse giving the Saints the lead after just 12 minutes, but it all went downhill from there. The goal saw Spurs spring into action, eventually finishing as 4-1 winners, a result that would see Southampton finish the weekend at the bottom of the table.
That result saw Saints’ winless run in the Premier League extend to nine games (D4, L5), with Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side picking up fewer wins (5) and fewer points (19) than any other Premier League side (excluding promoted & relegated sides) in 2022.
Leeds, on the other hand, won their opening game of the season in a Premier League campaign for the first time since they were promoted back to the division, after coming from behind to beat Wolves at Elland Road.
After avoiding relegation on the final day last term, Jesse Marsch will be hoping for a much improved campaign in 2022/23 and it’s already begun with the perfect start. Leeds have impressed on the road under their new manager, winning three and drawing one of their last five Premier League away games, with their only defeat coming against Arsenal when Luke Ayling was sent off after just 27 minutes in a disastrous game at The Emirates.
Can they continue their impressive away form and make it two wins from two this season?

Southampton vs Leeds match stats
Only two Premier League sides (excluding relegated teams) have conceded 40+ goals in the Premier League in 2022 – Leeds (44) and Southampton (42), so we won’t be expecting any clean sheets when these two sides meet on Saturday. Over 2.5 goals has landed in each of Southampton’s last six Premier League games, with the Saints scoring seven and conceding 17 goals in that time, with it also landing in five of Leeds’ last six games in the division.
Jack Harrison created more chances (7) and created more big chances (2) than any other Premier League player in gameweek 1, providing an assist in Leeds’ opening day fixture against Wolves. The winger created 70% of Leeds’ chances and set a new PB for chances created in a Premier League game, overtaking his previous record of five (vs Aston Villa & Sheffield United).
