The 2012 European Championship winners, Spain, are set to battle it out with Slovakia in Sevilla on Wednesday with the winner securing themselves a spot in the knockout stages of this summer’s tournament. Luis Enrique’s currently sit third on just two points and Pavel Hapal’s men occupy second on three points.

It has been an incredibly underwhelming start to the competition for the Spaniards. Having flexed their muscles against Germany last November, they were some people’s favourites to get their hands on the trophy this summer. However, two draws and just one goal scored has left La Furia Roja on the verge of an unexpected early exit.

Slovakia were able to remain ahead of Wednesday’s opposition despite tasting a narrow defeat in their last outing against Sweden. An Emil Forsberg penalty proved enough to seal the points for Sweden and left Slovakia hoping to draw confidence from their victory in their opening game against Poland.

Slovakia vs Spain: Match Stats

In three of the four games these two sides have played in this summer’s Euros, the score has finished with under 2.5 goals. Only Slovakia’s opening game against Poland produced over 2.5 goals. With so much at stake on Wednesday, we think it could be another tight affair with Spain hoping their class can see them prevail.

Only Alvaro Morata has managed to get his name on the scoresheet for Spain in the tournament. And in truth, he probably should have had another couple to his name. Despite some poor finishing from the Juventus striker, the opportunities have still come his way and he will be expected to put at least one away on Wednesday afternoon.

Slovakia vs Spain Corner Stats

In their opening two games, Spain have totalled 13 corners. In their goalless draw against Sweden, La Furia Roja racked up six corners and in their 1-1 draw against Poland, they totalled seven. Spain need a win on Wednesday to secure themselves a spot in the knockout stages so expect them to show an attacking threat throughout the 90 minutes.

Slovakia vs Spain: Cards Stats

Slovakia were only shown one yellow card in their victory over Poland in their opening game. However, in their defeat against Sweden, Pavel Hapal’s side showed a lack of discipline and were handed a total of three yellow cards over the course of the 90 minutes.
