Sitting third in the Premier League having lost just one of their opening 18 matches, Newcastle will be hoping to bring their league form into the FA Cup as they head to Hillsbrough to face League One side Sheffield Wednesday, who also sit second in their league.

Eddie Howe’s men are currently on a 15 match unbeaten run across all competitions since a late 2-1 defeat to Liverpool way back in August, winning eight of their last 10 matches and go into the FA Cup third round tie full of confidence having held league leaders Arsenal to a 0-0 draw last weekend.

Sheffield Wednesday, who are on a nine game unbeaten run of their own, will be no pushovers however, and it will be a hard fought battle for a place in round four.

Sheffield Wednesday vs Newcastle match stats

Eddie Howe has turned Newcastle’s defence into the best in the Premier League this season, with his side keeping more clean sheets (10) and conceding fewer goals (11) than any other side. The Toon Army have kept a clean sheet in each of their previous six matches across all competitions, a feat more impressive when you find out that they have faced both Chelsea and Arsenal in that time and can make it nine wins from their last 11 matches across all competitions with a win here.

Miggy Almiron picked up where he left off before the World Cup break in his first league match back against Leicester, finding the back of the net to make it nine league goals in 2022/23, which is as many as he managed in his previous 110 appearances in the competition. The Paraguayan has been in sensational form this season, picking up the Premier League Player of the Month award for October and terroising defences in some scintillating displays.

A goal here would see the forward reach double figures across all competitions for the first time in English football and for the first time since 2018, when he starred for Atlanta.
