Sheffield United vs West Brom: Predictions

The two bottom sides meet on Tuesday at Bramall Lane and it offers both sides a golden chance to close the gap on 17th-placed Brighton. It has been a stark contrast to the dangerous and resolute United side we saw last season in their return to the Premier League. However, the past week has offered supporters a crumb of comfort with their 2-1 victory at Old Trafford.

Sam Allardyce’s arrival at The Hawthorns has not exactly had the impact the Baggies faithful would have hoped for with only one league win under his belt since he was appointed in December. A 2-2 draw with Fulham on Saturday showed some positives, but mainly an opportunity missed given they had a 2-1 lead with just 15 minutes to go.

Brighton’s 1-0 victory over a shaky Tottenham on Sunday has piled the pressure on the bottom three as they opened a nine-point gap on the Baggies and a 13-point gap on Sheffield. This game offers both teams a chance to close the gap with time quickly beginning to run out on both sides.

A surprise victory at Old Trafford has injected some confidence in Wilder’s side as he hopes to regain the levels which saw them take the Premier League by storm last season. It was the Baggies which took all three points the last time the teams met in November in a 1-0 win.

Sheffield United vs West Brom: Match Stats

No team has scored fewer goals than Chris Wilder’s Blades, however, Tuesday’s game offers their struggling forwards a chance to add to their tally as they come up against the worst defence in the league. The Baggies has conceded by far the most goals in the league this season (50) with Crystal Palace behind them on 36.

Conor Gallagher has made the most successful tackles for West Brom this season, and by a long way. With 46 tackles this season, the midfielder could play a huge role should the visitors take any points from the game on Tuesday night in what is expected to be a tight affair.
