Sheffield United vs Leeds United: Predictions
It’ll be blood and thunder on Sunday afternoon as fierce rivals Sheffield United and Leeds United contest a Yorkshire derby at Bramall Lane.
This is the first time these two neighbours have faced each other in the top flight since March 1994 and although the fixture has been out of the Premier League limelight, it has still served up its fair share of drama and controversy over the years.
The Blades head into the clash on the back of two consecutive defeats to open the new Premier League season — losing 2-0 at home to Wolves and 1-0 away at Aston Villa — while they also crashed out of the EFL Cup at the hands of Burnley. Not the start they envisaged after finishing ninth in 2019/20.
Meanwhile, Marcelo Bielsa’s side will be puffing out their chests after beating Fulham 4-3 last time out to seal their first Premier League win in 16 years. Just rewards after their impressive performance in a 4-3 reverse against defending champions Liverpool on the opening weekend.
Meetings between these two have been tight in recent years, but always throw up plenty of talking points, so fasten your seatbelts.
01 December 2018 — Sheffield United 0-1 Leeds United
10 February 2018 — Sheffield United 2-1 Leeds United
27 October 2017 — Leeds United 1-2 Sheffield United
19 March 2011 — Sheffield United 2-0 Leeds United
This is the first Premier League meeting between these two old Yorkshire rivals since 1994. The last match between the two sides yielded a pivotal victory for Sheffield United at Elland Road in March 2019, with the three points earned through Chris Basham’s goal helping the Blades take a step closer to Championship promotion in that season.
