Sheffield United are two points clear of seventh-placed Middlesbrough going into the final day of the Championship season, but Paul Heckingbottom’s side are not secure in the play-offs yet. Blades fans will have been cheering Fulham on in their game against Luton Town on Monday, not just because it stopped the Hatters from overtaking them. Fulham’s victory meant that they had secured the Championship title, leaving them with nothing to play for on Saturday.
Nevertheless, there is still a job to be done. Sheffield United realistically need to beat Fulham to 100% guarantee their spot in the play-offs as a draw may not be enough if Middlesbrough win. But Sheffield United to go into this game in ideal form, winning their past two matches to end a mini slump that prevented them from already being safe in the play-offs.
The question is, what do Fulham do? They have absolutely nothing to play for, having lifted the title and celebrated with their home fans on Monday. On an away trip there may be slightly less desire to give the fans a show – not that Fulham won’t want to end the season on a high.
But we could see some younger players given a chance at the end of the campaign, gaining valuable experience ahead of the summer and new season – whether it’s to ready them for a loan or a squad role in the Premier League. Whatever Marco Silva decides to do, Fulham will want to end their season on a high, needing just three goals to beat Manchester City’s record for most in a single Championship campaign since 1992/93 (108).

Sheffield United vs Fulham match stats
For one last time in the Championship this season, Aleksandar Mitrovic will be looking to score, adding to his already ridiculous 43 goals. But we’re focussing on his teammate Harry Wilson, who is on the brink of another pretty impressive milestone. The Liverpool loanee has recorded 19 assists in the Championship so far this season, so will be looking to break the 20 mark – the only player to do so in the past 10 years.
As mentioned, Fulham are currently on 106 goals for the season and they do particularly like scoring after half time. Overall, 58 of their 106 goals have come in the second half, while Sheffield United have scored 43 after half time.
