Sheffield United vs Everton: Betting tips, predictions, odds & match preview

Everton will be hoping they can keep their grip on a spot in the Premier League top four when they visit struggling Sheffield United on Boxing Day.

Sheffield United vs Everton: Predictions

After a good campaign on their return to the Premier League in which they finished ninth, just five points behind the European spots, Sheffield United have endured a torrid start to 2020/21. The Blades are rooted to the bottom of the table after 14 games, still awaiting their first win, with just two points so far.

One of those points did come in their most-recent game, a 1-1 draw away to stalemate specialists Brighton, but it was an agonising result as Sheffield United had led until the 87th minute despite being down to 10 men, before Danny Welbeck equalised. It means they remain 10 points off safety already, with the omen of being bottom at Christmas hanging over their head.

Looking to pile on the misery are an Everton side that have found their form once again. The Toffees started the season perfect, winning their opening four games, but followed that up with a draw and three straight defeats, pushing them down the table.

However, they have won their past three games including victories over fellow top four challengers Chelsea and Leicester, while adding to Mikel Arteta’s problems with a win over Arsenal. As a result, they are now fourth, just five points behind leaders and rivals Liverpool, but only one clear of fifth-placed Chelsea.

Sheffield United vs Everton: Match Stats

No team have been worse in front of goal in the Premier League this season than Sheffield United. The Blades have registered just eight goals in their 14 games, the joint-lowest alongside Burnley, though the Clarets have also played one fewer game.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin may be known now as an Everton man, but the forward has ties to Sheffield United, coming through the Blades’ academy. The Englishman went on to play 12 games for Sheffield United’s first team, including one under current Blades manager Chris Wilder, having also worked under him on loan at Northampton Town. But now at Everton, Calvert-Lewin is having his best start to a season to date, already on 11 goals in the Premier League, just behind his all-time tally for single campaign (13 scored in 2019/20).
