Sheffield United vs Chelsea: Predictions

It has been a positive start to life at Stamford Bridge for former PSG boss Tuchel, who has overseen three clean sheets and collected seven points against Wolves, Burnley and Tottenham, winning his first London derby against the latter. The German will hope to keep the momentum going when he travels with his side to Bramall Lane for the late Sunday kick-off.

Already, the Blues are starting to resemble are more cohesive and threatening unit with Tuhcel at the helm compared to predecessor Frank Lampard. Against Wolves they were fluid without really troubling Rui Patricio, but in north London they bossed proceedings against a very lukewarm Spurs, with the 1-0 scoreline flattering Jose Mourinho’s men. And it was a similar story in the 2-0 Burnley win.

Poles apart from that predicament are Sheff Utd, who are toiling at the foot of the table and desperate to build on their recent victory over relegation rivals West Brom. Chris Wilder’s men have just started to show signs of life, winning three of their last five games, including that 1-0 win over Man Utd at Old Trafford.

During that run they also played Spurs and pushed Man City all the way in a slender 1-0 loss. The Blades now face their fourth ‘Big Six’ opponent in the space of just five games, but Wilder will know his side has the capacity to pull off a result against elite opposition, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer found out the hard way.

The Blues are currently fourth in the overall Premier League standings with 312 shots, and coming up against the division’s basement club, that trend is not likely to waver in South Yorkshire.

Hoping to ask questions at the opposite end of the pitch will be Sheff Utd’s leading marksman for this season: David McGoldrick. The seasoned striker has previous with this weekend’s opposition, having netted a brace against the Blues in this fixture last term.

Chelsea’s last visit to Bramall Lane really did shine a torch on the club’s problems at both ends of the pitch under Lampard. A McGoldrick brace and another from Oli McBurnie completed a 3-0 rout for Wilder’s men, as they also collected a point in the reverse fixture. Lampard was able to rectify that with a mauling of his own back in November, but the Blades have just started to find some rhythm in recent weeks, and Tuchel could be in for a difficult evening.
