Sevilla vs Inter Milan: Predictions, betting tips, odds & match preview

Can Inter Milan prevent Sevilla from being crowned Europa League champions once again on Friday night as the two teams meet in the final in Cologne?

On paper, the Italians are the stronger side and showed their quality in a thumping 5-0 semi-final win over Shakhtar Donetsk – but Sevilla are the kings of this particular competition having lifted the trophy no fewer than five times – all within the last 15 years. Read on for our Europa League Final betting tips and predictions here.

Sevilla are the kings of the Europa League. Los Nervioenses have won the competition more times than any other in history, having lifted the famous trophy no fewer than five times and remarkably, those five tournament wins have all come in the last 16 years.

Julen Lopetegui is really rebuilding his reputation at the club too after short-lived spells with Spain and Real Madrid and after a fourth placed finish in the domestic table saw them qualify for next season’s Champions League, the La Liga side are now looking to be crowned Europa League champions once again after hard-fought wins over the likes of Manchester United and Roma in the knock-out stages.

It’s been a progressive first season under Antonio Conte for Inter Milan. Having pushed to close the gap between themselves and Juventus who remain the dominant force in Serie A, the Nerazzurri ended the league campaign in second place but are now looking to add some silverware to the cabinet in the Europa League final.

Having won seven and lost just one of their nine Europa League games this season, the Italian outfit have perhaps saved some of their best performances in the competition for these one-legged affairs in the latter stages, easing past Getafe and Bayer Leverkusen before thumping Shakhtar Donetsk 5-0 at the semi-final stage.

Sevilla vs Inter Milan Predictions

Squawka Stat: Inter Milan have kept six clean sheets in their last seven games, with Sevilla keeping five in their last six.

Given that both teams scored in the semi-final between Sevilla and Manchester United and given that Inter racked up five goals in their semi-final against Shakhtar Donetsk, it’s perhaps understandable that the bookmakers expect a high-scoring game here.

However, a look at recent results involving these teams suggests that it may in fact be the defenders that are the star turns here. Internazionale have been in terrific form at the back recently, with the one goal conceded in their quarter final win over Bayer Leverkusen the only goal they’ve shipped in their last seven games in all competitions.

Sevilla’s recent defensive record can almost match up to Inter’s though. Manchester United needed a penalty to find a way past in-form keeper Bono in the semi-final but prior to that, Nervioenses had kept five consecutive clean sheets in La Liga and the Europa League.

Only both teams have scored in one of the last three Europa League finals and so we expect at least one clean sheet in this match which pits two of Europe’s most in-form defences against each other.

Squawka Stat: Diego Carlos has been booked in his last three appearances for Sevilla.

Neither of these two teams have picked up a particularly high amount of cards in the Europa League since they were knocked out of the Champions League and indeed, Sevilla have only earned more booking points than their opponents in one of their five games in the competition so far.

However, one man who will be worth watching for referee Danny Makkelie is centre-back Diego Carlos, who gave away the penalty to Manchester United in the semi-final for a foul on Marcus Rashford and arguably could’ve given another penalty away in the second half on Bruno Fernandes.

Having been carded for that foul on Rashford in the early stages of the game, the Brazilian has now picked up a booking in each of his last three matches, all in the Europa League, so we’re surprised at the odds of 5/2 available from bet365 on him to stretch that run to four cards in four matches here.

Squawka Bet Tip: Diego Carlos to be carded @ 5/2 with bet365 – odds correct at the time of writing

Diego Carlos’ deep defensive action points can often get him into trouble with referees.
