Dortmund vs Sevilla: Predictions

Borussia Dortmund carried three away goals back to Germany after the first leg but will be frustrated by the late goal they conceded which has kept Sevilla well in the tie despite Dortmund dominating the first-leg. Sevilla was blown away by Dortmund despite taking an early lead in the game, however, Luuk de Jong’s late goal reduced the deficit to keep Sevilla’s hopes alive.

Erling Haaland bullied the Sevilla backline to add two goals to extend Dortmund’s first-half lead to 3-1. The Norweigan striker has since scored four in the Bundesliga since the Champions League clash and the 20-year-old will be looking to add to his eight European goals this season.

Since their Champions League defeat, Sevilla suffered a crushing defeat in the Copa del Rey semi-final second leg against Barcelona.  Despite taking a 2-0 lead into the second-leg, Barcelona came from behind and edged the tie in extra time and the 3-0 victory for Barça on the night sent them through to the final.

Sevilla also suffered defeat on the weekend to La Liga strugglers Elche as De Jong’s last-minute consolation goal halved the deficit as Elche ran out as 2-1 victors. Dortmund also suffered defeat on the weekend despite taking an early 2-0 lead against Bayern Munich. Hansi Flick’s side quickly responded to beat Dortmund 4-2 on Saturday night.
