Serbia vs Republic of Ireland: Predictions
Serbia will be playing with a bitter taste still in their mouth after being denied a spot in Euro 2020 by Scotland in the final qualification stage after losing on penalties as the Scots progressed to their first major tournament since Euro 1998.
Ireland will view Serbia as their main rivals in the group with Portugal expected to run away to top spot leaving the second automatic qualification place up for grabs. There is only a 12 place difference between Servia (30) and Ireland (42) leaving the second place wide open with both sides hoping to get off to the perfect start on Wednesday night.
Wednesday’s visitors have only won one of their last 11 games across all competitions so will be hoping they can turn around their recent form against their main rivals in Group A. Serbia are hardly going into the game in fine form themselves having only won one more game than Stephen Kenny’s side in the same number of games.
Ireland’s first-choice goalkeeper, Darren Randolph, will miss the game on Wednesday night and their second choice goalkeeper, Caoimhin Kelleher, will also miss the game through injury.
