It’s been a difficult start to the qualifiers for Euro 2024 for Stephen Kenny’s side, with The Boys in Green suffering back-to-back defeats, including Friday’s 2-1 loss to Greece. That defeat follows on from an expected 1-0 reversal at the hands of France in their curtain-raiser back in March.
Kenny would have been hoping to get something out of both games as his nation face a daunting group that also includes the Netherlands. As things stand, they remain pointless alongside their opponents on Monday and sit fourth in the table — but it is still early days in this race for Germany 2024.
Gibraltar, of course, have never made it to a major tournament since becoming a member of UEFA in 2013, but they will be desperate to make history. With such mammoth nations towering above them in this daunting Group B, Julio Cesar Ribas’ Llanis are currently rock bottom with three defeats from three.

Republic of Ireland vs Gibraltar match stats
Evan Ferguson has emerged as the crown jewel to Irish football since bursting onto the scene with Brighton. The 18-year-old has been directly involved in two goals in his last two international matches for the Republic of Ireland (one goal, one assist), and will certainly fancy his chances of improving his tally on Monday.
James McClean will also be hoping to play a part in what could be a landmark match for him. The 34-year-old stalwart is just the single cap off becoming an Irish centurion, and he would relish the chance to mark the occasion with a goal, and perhaps more importantly, a win to get his nation off the mark.
