Man Utd vs Real Sociedad: Predictions
Manchester United kicked off their Europa League campaign in style with an emphatic 4-0 victory away to Real Sociedad last Thursday. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side did not have enough to make it through their Champions League group but enter the Europa League as favourites to win the competition.
On the back of the 4-0 thumping, Sociedad inflicted a 4-0 victory on La Liga side Alaves. Alexander Isak netted a hat trick in the convincing win which will provide the whole squad with a huge boost of confidence ahead of their visit to Old Trafford on Thursday.
Solksjaer’s men swept a struggling Newcastle to the side on Sunday in a 3-1 win which saw the same three scorers as Thursday night in Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Dan James.
United have one foot in the next round of the Europa League but Solskjaer will want to make sure his side do not provide their visitors with any early hope.

Man Utd vs Real Sociedad: Match Stats
United put Sociedad to the sword in the first-leg which has all but sealed their spot in the last 16. Given their four-goal advantage, Solskjaer is likely to remove a few of his starts from the starting XI but it is expected Anthony Martial will remain in the XI as he looks to gain some consistency in front of goal.
Sociedad have shown in La Liga on the weekend they are capable of scoring and they could provide United a threat early on in the game as they look to score to provide them with a glimmer of hope.
18 February 2021 – Real Sociedad 0-4 Man Utd – Europa League
23 October 2013 – Man Utd 1-0 Real Sociedad – Champions League
05 November 2013 – Real Sociedad 0-0 Man Utd – Champions League
The Spanish side does not hold a great record over United with no win in their three meetings. Solskjaer will be aiming to keep their unbeaten record against Sociedad intact come Thursday night to see his side comfortably through to the last 16 of the competition.
