After a terrible start to the season, Barcelona have turned things around and they remain in charge of their Champions League destiny, but not everything is peachy for Xavi. The Blaugrana have lost their past two matches across all competitions, the first coming against Eintracht Frankfurt at the Nou Camp to drop out of the Europa League at the quarter-final stage.
Then, on Monday, Barcelona passed up the opportunity to bounce back by losing 1-0 to relegation-battling Cadiz, a result that took the Andalusian side out of the drop zone. But Barcelona cannot afford any more slip ups. Despite sitting second, Xavi’s side are just three points clear of fifth-placed Real Betis going into La Liga’s final run in. Even with two games in hand, things are so close in the battle for Champions League football.
Real Sociedad will also count themselves as part of that battle, just five points behind Barcelona – but more importantly also five off fourth-placed Atletico Madrid. Imanol Alguacil’s men come into this game unbeaten in five league matches since a 4-1 defeat to runaway league leaders Real Madrid, winning three and drawing two.
While the wins have come against Espanyol, Alaves and Elche, all of whom sit below Real Sociedad in the table, Alguacil will take heart from the draws with Sevilla and Real Betis, not losing ground on the teams above them. A win for Real Sociedad would also see them jump up to fifth in the league, thanks to Real Betis’ defeat to Elche on Tuesday.

Real Sociedad vs Barcelona: Match Stats
Ousmane Dembele has been at the heart of Barcelona’s revival in recent weeks, overcoming doubts surrounding his future and vocal criticism from the higher ups at the club. The Frenchman has especially enjoyed playing away from the Nou Camp, providing four assists in his past four away games in La Liga, as many has he managed in his previous 27 away league matches.
But it will be difficult for Barcelona, as they face a Real Sociedad side in good form at home. The hosts have not lost any of their past seven home league matches, winning five, and will actually be looking to keep eight consecutive home clean sheets for the first time. Barcelona are good on the road, however, unbeaten in their past 12 away league matches.
