Hosts Juventus are already out of the Champions League in what has been a disastrous campaign for the Old Lady, winning just three points out of a possible 15 so far, sitting eight behind second-placed Benfica. Now all that is left for Juventus is to save face with qualification for the Europa League knockout round playoffs. In order to do that, Juventus will need to at least match Maccabi Haifa’s result against Benfica.
Unlike some clubs whose performances domestically and in the Champions League have been night and day, 2022/23 has been a season of overall struggle for Juventus. Massimiliano Allegri’s side are currently seventh in Serie A, already 10 points behind early league leaders Napoli. Then, of course, there is the Champions League in which they have lost four matches in the group stage, as many as they had lost in the previous four group stages combined.
PSG, meanwhile, come into this match looking to secure top spot in what is a closely-contested battle. The French side are already through to the last 16 and go into the final matchday top, but they are only ahead of second-placed Benfica on goal difference with the pair unable to be split in their two matches, which both ended 1-1.
So PSG know a win is a must if they are to guarantee the preferential spot as group winners in Friday’s draw, though even then it isn’t certain. Should Benfica also win, and beat Maccabi Haifa by at least five goals more than PSG beat Juventus, then the Portuguese side will finish top. That, of course, is farfetched but this season has shown that anything is possible.

The real Lionel Messi has returned this season with the Argentine directly involved in seven goals in his four Champions League group stage appearances so far this season, scoring four and providing a further three assists. Messi hasn’t been directly involved in more goals in a Champions League group stage since the 2016/17 campaign when he scored 10 goals and recorded two assists while at Barcelona.
Unsurprisingly, PSG have dominated possession in the Champions League so far with an average of 60.42% across their five matches. Juventus, on the other hand, haven’t. The Bianconeri have slightly been on the back foot across their five matches with an average of 48.2%.
