It has been a strong start to Roberto Martinez’s reign as Portugal head coach, with the former Everton and Belgium manager overseeing emphatic wins over Luxembourg and Liechtenstein by an aggregate scoreline of 10-0. That has left the Iberian nation atop the infant Group J table in the road to Germany.
Cristiano Ronaldo will be hoping to pick up two more caps this month in Portugal’s matches against Bosnia and Iceland which, if he does, will see him reach 200 appearances for his nation, becoming the first player to ever achieve that feat for any country in the history of the sport.
Bosnia currently sit third in Group J and just a point below Slovakia, who occupy the final automatic qualification place. The Golden Lilies comprehensively put Iceland to the sword in their curtain-raiser, winning 3-0, before coming back down to earth with a 2-0 defeat to Slovakia last time out.

Portugal have won their first two games under Martinez by an aggregate scoreline of 10-0, smashing Liechtenstein 4-0 and then following up with a routine 6-0 drubbing over Luxembourg. Ronaldo bagged a brace in each fixture, and will be hoping that potency marks the start of a fruitful relationship with Martinez.
CR7 also scored twice in his previous meeting against Saturday’s opponents way back in 2011, so don’t be surprised if he repeats the feat 12 years later.

These two nations have only ever met in qualifiers. They last locked proverbial horns in 2011, with Paulo Bento’s men running out 6-2 victors. On the scoresheet that day was of course Ronaldo, who scored twice, Nani, Helder Postiga, who also notched a brace, and Miguel Veloso.
