Portugal vs Azerbaijan: Predictions
Fernando Santos will be looking to get his side off to the ideal start as they play international minnows Azerbaijan at Juventus’ Allianz Arena Stadium in Turin, Italy. Portugal have only lost one of their last eight games which came in a 1-0 defeat against the current world champions, France.
Wednesday’s visitors, Azerbaijan, have only lost one of their last five games which came against Cyprus. However, they will face a totally different standard of opposition on Wednesday as they play the current European Championship champions after winning the competition in 2016.
Portugal registered impressive 4-1 and 3-2 victories over 2018 World Cup finalists Croatia towards the back end of last year. Aside from Cristiano Ronaldo, there will be man familiar faces for Premier League fans with Bruno Fernandes, Bernado Silva, Ruben Dias and Diogo Jota all featuring in the squad to play on Wednesday.
Since becoming an independent nation, Azerbaijan have not qualified for either of the two major tournaments but will be looking to defy the odds with Serbia, Republic of Ireland and Luxembourg also in their qualifying group.
